A day prior to the start of the 2016 New York International Auto Show, a prototype of the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback was introduced to the North American market
This next-generation Civic model is being touted by Honda as the sportiest Civic in the nameplate’s history, set to draw in new customers and bring them into the fold of Honda drivers.
The Civic Hatchback is slated to be released later on in 2016, becoming the third new model in the 10th-generation Civic lineup, alongside the 2016 Honda Civic Sedan and the 2016 Honda Civic Coupe. Fourth and fifth members of the Civic family, the Civic Si and the new Civic Type R, will join up in 2017.
The new Civic Hatchback has been created through the combined ingenuity of Honda R&D teams in both Europe and Japan. Developers endeavored to create a model that would stand out, surpass traditional European compact design, and remain true to the core values behind the Honda Civic. The result of their labors is a versatile Civic model that boasts a strikingly sporty design, and impressive driving dynamics.
Honda has confirmed that the new Civic Hatchback will combine the all-new 1.5L turbocharged engine with either a six-speed manual transmission or continuously variable transmission.
This five-door hatchback will be built on the same platform as the new Civic Sedan and is being touted by Honda as the “sportiest Civic to date.”
The Civic Hatchback also features bigger and wider wheels, giving it a strong stance. Its dynamic exterior is bolstered by a long wheelbase, short overhangs, and a streamlined cabin area.
The bold face of the Civic Hatchback features a short overhang and large air intake, along with LED headlights and daytime running lights emerging from underneath the muscular hood.
Sweeping lines travel the car’s side, with a crease joining the front and rear door handles and ending in the iconic C-shaped LED lights at the rear. Another character line placed lower travels from behind the front wheels through the car’s door, joining the rear wheel arches.
The overall result is striking style that makes the Civic Hatchback more than stand out from the crowd.
